Product Review for GDM Mailbox Company Paramount Post
This post is heavy and beautifully constructed. However, it is not made to be sunk into the ground and does NOT stand alone, bolted to a stone surface as some mailbox posts are made to do. Since installation INSTRUCTIONS were NOT INCLUDED, and none were available online (and the company was closed), we determined that this is a (heavy)'sleeve' that needs to be (hefted up and) placed over a wooden post that has been sunken and secured into the ground with concrete. As there were NO INSTRUCTIONS to state what size post we needed to sink, we sunk what we decided was an appropriately sized post into the ground, leveled it straight, and secured it into the ground with concrete. After waiting the necessary curing time for the concrete to set, we victoriously hefted the 'sleeve' and slipped it down over our perfectly installed wooden post, only to find that our wooden post was about an inch too narrow... which meant the 'sleeve' wobbled in all 4 directions. So, after some deliberation, we decided to pour 'quick set' concrete into the post from the top (making sure that we had fully assembled the mailbox 'arm' and any accessories before doing this so as not to fill the screw holes with concrete). This basically filled in any gaps around the post and we made sure to hold the sleeve straight and level until the initial setting had occured... Messy work, but problem solved and no more wobble! And, by the way, if you follow OUR way of installing this post, it will take 'atleast' the better part of the day, plus driving time to and from your local home improvement store to get the concrete, wooden post, etc., and then to let the concrete set up, etc.. But, if you use the proper sized wooden post right out of the gate (or had INSTRUCTIONS that properly detailed the supplies needed) it might take an hour or two to install. However, OUR post, once installed 'our' way, is going NO WHERE! EVER! And it looks beautiful!
